Posted

The Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the historic Star Theatre in downtown Willow Springs. The program to be presented, “A Musical Buffet,” will feature a “smorgasbord of musical delights,” said officials with the Willow Springs Arts Council, which is sponsoring the performance.

Tickets will be available at the door for $10 each; children age 5 and younger will be admitted free of charge.

Patrons will be treated to homespun numbers like “Cumberland Cross” and Leroy Anderson’s “Irish Suite,” as well as Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and Mozart’s “Kine Kleine Nachtmusik.”

“Throw in ‘James Bond Medley,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘Forrest Gump Suite’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back Medley,’ and things get really yummy!” added organizers. “For some spice, everyone will love ‘Capriccio Espagnol,’ and then mellow out with Mercer’s ‘Moon River.’

The full orchestra includes violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, piccolo, trombone, tuba, trumpet, piano and percussion, and players of all ages come from Houston, West Plains, Cabool, Willow Springs, Summersville, Ava, Eminence ant Mtn. View. They perform under the direction of Jodie Forbes, who has conducted the orchestra since 2017. She will be joined for this concert by associate conductor Sam Dielen, Houston Schools band director. Mtn.
