SUMMERSVILLE BOOKENDS

Posted

If humming is a sure sign of happiness, we have some very happy children creating Lego masterpieces as I write my column this Saturday morning. The lovely harmony created by one family reminds me of bees buzzing in a flowerbed!

Children, (and sometimes their parents), enjoy Lego Club each Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., but building with Legos is made available anytime during a library visit.

Just in time for spring yard work, Summersville Friends of the Library will hold their popular Spring Plants & Books Sale this April 26, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Donated plants may be dropped off @ the library the day before the sale or the morning of.

Proceeds help to fund library activities and other support for Summersville Library, so please mark your calendar!

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is going to be an interesting one: “Reading Is a Passport to Countless Adventures”. Books, presentations, and activities will be centered around travel and information about other countries from June 3 through June 28. Registration for the program will be held May 28 through June 3 for ages 3-15 years old.

With our limited budget, monetary donations in any amount would be very much appreciated. These funds will purchase books, supplies, and incentives to help all kids who participate. Donations of any amount may be mailed or dropped off at any library branch, or we are happy to come pick it up. Just phone us @ 417-932-5261.

Reading really is a passport to life’s adventures, and you can play a vital part!

Did you know that fishing poles and tackle boxes are available at all Texas County Library branches for check out?  This much appreciated service is a courtesy of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Ongoing weekly activities at Summersville Branch Library:

Chain Gang Crochet Club: Thursdays 2-4 p.m.

Chess Club: Saturdays 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Lego Club: Saturdays 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Contact the library for more information on any activity or a suggestion for new ones!

The Summersville Friends of the Library group meets at 5 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the library. The next scheduled meeting will be on Aug. 7. We always need fresh public input on planning our library activities!

There’s never a charge for library activities, thanks to the Summersville Friends of the Library and Texas County Library, but you can show your appreciation by attending the Friends’ monthly meetings and being a part of this service to our community.

New members are invited to join this active group in supporting and participating in the continuing growth of the Summersville Branch Library. The Friends’ Facebook page can be found by entering “Summersville Friends of the Library.”
