Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, based in Willow Springs, reported three fatal traffic crashes that occurred between Friday morning and Saturday afternoon.
Polly A. Ousley, 85, of Gainesville succumbed late Saturday night to injuries suffered in a crash at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the junction of U.S. 160 and Highway 5 in Gainesville.
Sgt. L.S. Elliot reported Ousley was driving north across U.S. 160 from Ozark County Road 503 in her 2007 Chevrolet Impala, but failed to yield and struck a 1998 Western Star 4800 conventional truck driven west by Brett A. Foster, 24, Bakersfield.
Ousley, who did not wear a seat belt, was flown by Air Evac to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield for treatment, where she was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. Saturday by Dr. Amanda Chelednik, the report shows. No injuries were reported for Foster.
Elliot was assisted at the scene by Ozark County deputies and the Gainesville Fire Department.
A motorcyclist from Arkansas was fatally injured in a crash at 2:06 p.m. Saturday on Highway 142, 3 miles east of Myrtle in Oregon County.
Tpr. K.L. Hogan reported Gary A. Johann, 56, Black Rock, Ark., was not wearing a helmet when his eastbound 2011 Harley-Davidson traveled off the right side of the road and overturned, causing Johann to be thrown from the motorcycle.
He was to be flown to Memphis (Tenn.) Regional Hospital, however, Dr. Andrew Mirocke of St. Bernard’s Healthcare in Jonesboro, Ark., pronounced Johann dead at 3:51 p.m., the report shows.
A man from Poplar Bluff died of injuries suffered in a crash at 2:15 p.m. Saturday on Carter County 347 about a mile and a half north of Ellsinore.
Tpr. K.H. Hall reported Joseph N. Carter, 49, was southbound in his 2021 Ford Ranger when it went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Carter County Coroner Erik McSpadden pronounced him dead at 3:15 p.m. at the scene.
Hall was assisted at the site of the crash by Carter County deputies, Ellsinore police and patrol Tpr. N.G. Britt.
Hall’s death is the 28th traffic fatality logged in the nine-county Troop G area this year; Johann’s is the 29th and Ousley’s is the 30th. At this same time in 2022, 27 traffic deaths had been recorded in the troop region.
