Two dead in recent area crashes

A Centerville man was killed in a rollover crash at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 21, 2 miles north of Centerville in Reynolds County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Cpl. T.M. Broyles with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported a southbound 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by David L. White, 76, ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, returned to the road and ran off the left side where struck an embankment and tree, then overturned.

Reynolds County Coroner Jeff McSpadden pronounced White dead at 10:45 p.m.

White’s death marks the nine-county Troop G area’s seventh traffic fatality for this year compared to 12 at this time in 2023.

An 87-year-old woman from Ash Flat, Ark., died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash at 11:15 a.m. Saturday in Highland, Sharp County, Ark., according to the Arkansas State Police.

Geraldine W. Azil, 87, Ash Flat, was a passenger in a 2019 Buick that was traveling south on U.S. 62/Highway 412, Sgt. Detective Jeff Hamilton with the Highland Police Department reported to Troop A of the state police, headquartered in Little Rock. The front of vehicle, driven by Billy D. Azil, 89, also of Ash Flat, reportedly collided with the passenger side of a northbound 2022 Dodge Ram that was trying to turn left onto Highway 175.

The Dodge’s driver, Brent A. Figgins, 42, Cherokee Village, Ark., and the Buick’s driver both suffered injuries and were taken to White River Medical Complex in Cherokee Village and the University of Arkansas Medical for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock.

Geraldine Azil’s death is the 199th traffic fatality recorded in Arkansas this year, compared to 200 in the same time frame in 2023.
