In celebration of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S., the West Plains Council on the Arts is hosting a multimedia art exhibition, “Freedom,” at the West Plains Civic Center, 110 St. Louis St.

The exhibit is on display now and runs through July 17 in the civic center gallery. A special "Meet the Artist" reception is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. June 24, in the civic center lobby, allowing the community to interact with the featured local creators.

The exhibition features 24 original pieces crafted by nine individual artists and one regional collective, all exploring the concept of freedom through creative lenses. The displayed works represent a diverse range of artistic mediums, including oil and acrylic paintings, contemporary art, photography, metal sculpture, historical posters and traditional quilting.

Featured contributors include L.L. Broadfoot, Nancy Clayburn, Robb Cox, Jim Davis, Jane Hale, Donna K. Lay, Diane Pence, Sally Robinson, Mark Quentin Wallen, Delores Mercer Winkler and the Calico Cabin Sew-ciety.

The exhibit is available for public viewing during regular West Plains Civic Center operating hours.

The event is sponsored by the city of West Plains, the Harlin Museum, the West Plains Council on the Arts and Missouri Humanities. Financial support for the West Plains Council on the Arts is provided in part by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
