American Legion Post 384 has been selected as the grand marshal for the 2026 Willow Springs Fourth of July Parade, parade organizers announce.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. July 4. As the nation commemorates its semiquincentennial, chamber organizers selected the local veterans organization to align with this year's parade theme, "250 Years of Freedom."
"This year's theme reminds us that our independence has never been free," Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kim McCormick said. "We are honored to recognize the veterans of American Legion Post 384, whose service and sacrifice have protected the freedoms we enjoy every day. We invite our community to join us in showing them the appreciation they have earned."
Chamber officials anticipate the procession will be one of the largest in the community's history. Spectators are encouraged to line the route to honor the post members as they lead the parade.
PARADE SAFETY GUIDELINES ISSUED
In conjunction with the event planning, the chamber and local officials have issued safety guidelines for families attending the parade, particularly regarding the distribution of candy.
Parents and guardians are strictly requested to keep children on sidewalks or curbs and out of the active roadway. Parade organizers noted that drivers operating moving vehicles and floats often have restricted visibility, creating an immediate hazard if children rush into the street to retrieve tossed candy.
To prioritize safety for spectators and participants, the chamber asked parents to keep children securely on the curb or sidewalk throughout the event, tell them to never chase candy or promotional items into the street, and ensure young children are supervised by an adult at all times. All are reminded to wait until the entire parade procession has fully passed before entering the road.
"Candy is fun, but if someone gets hurt, the fun stops for everyone," the chamber noted. "Let's work together to ensure this year's parade is remembered for the celebration, not an accident."
