For the first time in its history, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office has achieved 100% compliance on its sex offender registry, agency officials announced Thursday.
Sheriff’s office officials credited the milestone to Jailer Emma Roberts, who manages the county’s registry program in addition to her regular duties at the Howell County Sheriff's Office Jail. Roberts was also recognized last month as one of three local sheriff's office graduates of the Drury Law Enforcement Academy.
Howell County currently has 163 active registered sex offenders. Achieving 100% compliance means that every registered offender in the county is successfully meeting the legal requirements established by Missouri law, officials explained. This includes keeping address records, employment details, vehicle information and other mandatory registration parameters fully up to date.
According to the sheriff's office, maintaining the registry requires constant follow-up, detailed recordkeeping and direct communication with both offenders and partnering agencies. Regular compliance checks allow law enforcement to verify the accuracy of the registry and hold offenders accountable if they fail to meet their legal obligations.
An accurate, up-to-date registry serves to aid law enforcement personnel as they monitor offenders, investigate crimes and provide local communities with reliable information, said officials.
