Willow Springs School Board sets annual tax rate hearing date

The Willow Springs School Board met in regular session July 1 and a date and time was set for the annual tax levy hearing.

Before addressing regular the board approved consent items up for approval, namely the agenda, previous meeting minutes, a budget report, bills to be paid and personnel updates. Current funds held by the district are about $3.29 million. Last month’s balance was about $4.37 million and the balance a year ago was roughly $4.58 million.

Personnel updates included two new hires: Britney Dickman as elementary teacher and Dylan McKinney as paraprofessional.

Several items were presented to the board for information, beginning with administrative reports from all school buildings and updates from Superintendent Dr. Marty Spence on summer projects and the district communications director. The board reviewed student activity account balances, later in the meeting voting unanimously to write off negative balances and zero out about $4,753 in the Middle School Athletics account and $29, 785 in the High School Athletics account, for a total of about $34,539. A Missouri School Board Association policy regarding professional staff short-term leave was discussed and also later unanimously approved.

In other actions, the board set the time and date for the annual tax rate hearing for 5:45 p.m. Aug. 12 in the board conference room. The public is welcome to attend. A summer board retreat will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 24.

Board members also unanimously approved a contracted with Amplified Communications and Marketing for the communications director position.

Prior to adjourning, the board moved into closed executive session.

In addition to Spence, those present for the meeting were board President Mac Gum and members Adam Webb, Brent Colley, Scott Foster, Jeff Lovan, Debbie Bryan and Matt Hobson, plus board Secretary Mandy Scarbrough.

The school board typically meets on the second Monday of each month. The public is welcome.
