While officials have no way of knowing what kind of crowds will be present for the April 8 total solar eclipse in Willow Springs, the local chamber of commerce has made arrangements for some “safe-viewing” areas where eclipse-watchers can bring chairs, have picnics, tailgate andset up cameras to enjoy the event, announces Director Kim McCormick.
Those areas include the Eleven Point Fire Department, Booster Field, Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course and Palenske Field.
“The City of Willow Springs and their entire staff will be on hand to handle anticipated crowds and they have done a phenomenal job in planning for all scenarios,” added McCormick.
The eclipse will last about three hours in total, with totality for Willow Springs estimated at about 35 seconds. It is strongly encouraged to wear Eclipse glasses while viewing this event except during the 35 seconds of darkness during totality, at which time it is safe to remove them.
Glasses can be purchased at the Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce office, 120 W. Main St., for $1 each.
