Windshield smashed over novelty spray

Posted

A practical joke allegedly led to property damage after a man sprayed with a foul-smelling novelty spray responded by smashing the prankster’s windshield with a wrench, according to court records.

Brennon E.W. Simers, 21, of Mammoth Spring, Ark., has been charged with misdemeanor second-degree property damage.

The victim reported to law enforcement that on July 16 he played a prank on Simers by spraying him with "fart spray." In response, Simers allegedly retaliated by striking and damaging the windshield of the victim’s pickup truck.

Howell County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Holloway investigated the incident and reported observing several impact marks on the shattered windshield. Repairs to the truck are estimated at $500.

While the victim initially reported that Simers was a co-worker, investigators later determined Simers was a customer at the recycling center where the victim was employed.

Simers told Holloway that he and the victim were unloading a trailer at the recycling center when the victim sprayed him. Simers admitted the prank made him angry, but claimed he walked away and denied damaging the truck or knowing how the damage occurred.

However, a witness told investigators he saw Simers hit the truck with a long box-end wrench and identified Simers by name. The victim also identified Simers as the suspect using a driver's license photo.

Simers was issued a summons to make an initial court appearance Aug. 24 before Associate Circuit Judge R. David Ray.

The case is being prosecuted by Howell County Prosecutor Mike Hutchings and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Simpson.
