The West Plains Civic Center was packed Friday evening as hundreds of family members and
friends gathered to celebrate the final chapter for 300 graduates of the West Plains High School
Class of 2026.
The ceremony began with a message from Principal Ryan Smith, who expressed appreciation
for the class’s kindness, resilience and hard work. Smith acknowledged the monumental
struggles students overcame during their high school careers while looking toward what lies
ahead.
“As I look at all of you today, I see future leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, teachers,”
Smith said. “The possibilities are endless, and your potential is truly inspiring.”
Following Smith’s remarks, the Zizzer Choir performed the national anthem and “You’ll Never
Walk Alone” by Mark Hayes. The latter piece, themed around persevering through storms and
deserts, served as a symbolic nod to the hurdles graduates had overcome.
Student speakers Camille Coleman and Maxine Clinton each gave heartfelt addresses.
Coleman shared fond school memories and inside jokes in honor of math educator Steve Martz.
“Tonight is an ending of sorts, yes, but it’s also the beginning of something spectacular,”
Coleman said.
Clinton focused on congratulating the class for its accomplishments while thanking the school
board and faculty for the opportunity to learn and grow.
Superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis offered an endorsement of the class and recognized McKrae
Brewer, who served as the student school board representative for the 2025-2026 school year.
Brewer, who followed previous representative Emma Arnold, received an award of appreciation
