WPHS hosting drive to support hurricane victims

West Plains High School is holding a fundraiser and donation drive to support those affected by Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in late September, impacting residents of northern Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Donations of cash, food and essentials may be dropped off by students and staff until Oct. 27 at the front office of the high school 600 E. Olden St. Community members wishing to contribute can contact organizer Charlotte Cochran, 417-274-6229, or the school 417-256-6150.

Donations collected will be delivered by two people from West Plains to the Carolinas and Tennessee.

Items needed include bottled water, Gatorade or Propel, hydration packets, canned food with pull tabs, shampoo, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, paper plates, individually-wrapped snacks, manual can openers, backpacks full of school supplies for all grades, deodorant, pet food, all sizes of new clothing with tags, all sizes of new shoes in boxes;

baby wipes and diapers, adult diapers, baby formula and food, nursery water, new socks in packages, new underwear in packages, hand and bath soap, garbage bags, plastic utensils, nonperishable foods, body wash, all sizes of bed sheets and covers, hand sanitizer and sanitizer wipes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, bug spray, ice chests, brooms and mops, work gloves, storage bins, new blankets, body lotion, pillows and cleaning supplies such as Bleach, Pine-Sol, sponges and microfiber rags.

Monetary gifts of any amount will also be accepted.
