Christmas may be months away, but a local holiday figure has already launched a campaign to bring a new seasonal centerpiece to the downtown square.

The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the city, has launched a community fundraiser to raise $15,000 for a commercial-grade, fully lighted artificial Christmas tree. Planned to stand between 15 and 18 feet tall, the tree is intended to serve as a permanent community asset and the anchor for an annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony.

To kick off the fundraising drive, the chamber introduced "Sparkles the Elf," a holiday character tasked with distributing donation jars to businesses throughout Willow Springs.

"Every donation matters," Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kim McCormick said. "This tree belongs to the entire community, and we hope everyone will take part in helping make it happen."

Organizers are accepting donations of all sizes, from loose pocket change to corporate sponsorships or memorial contributions made in honor of loved ones.

Official collection jars are currently stationed at merchant locations across town. Contributions can also be dropped off directly at the Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce office at 209 E. Main St., Willow Springs City Hall or any local Simmons Bank branch. Mail-in donations can be sent to the Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 322, Willow Springs, MO 65793.

For more information regarding the project, residents can contact the chamber office at 417-469-5519 or via email at willowspringschamber@gmail.com.
