W.S. chamber to host several holiday events

Posted

The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce will coordinate this year’s Trunk or Treat event at Booster Field, announces Director Kim McCormick.

Several groups will hold activities under the pavilion during the event, and the Willow Springs Lions Club will offer free hay rides. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

The Willow Springs High School Future Business leaders of America will cook up s’mores as a fundraiser, the Willow Springs Police Department cadets will sell hot dogs, also as a fundraiser, and the chamber is looking for other groups and actives to make the day a fun-filled family event.

Due to size restraints, parking sites must be reserved.

A downtown-wide holiday open house is being planned for Nov. 11. Businesses are asked to consider offering a sale, special meal prices or samples or just highlight what they offer as a business, and decorate their storefronts. The goal, according to McCormick, is to make Willow Springs a shopping destination.

The chamber has also announced its annual Christmas Parade theme and date. Decorate floats in keeping with the theme, “Christmas at the Movies,” for the parade, which will start at 6 p.m. Dec. 2. Lineup will be at 5 p.m. Entry forms are available at www.wschamber.net.

Other festivities planned for the day include Pancakes with Santa, hosted by the Lions Club; the Star Theatre will show a Christmas movie all day long; a decorating activity will be hosted by Ozarks Sweetest Bakeshop; the Willow Springs Arts Council will hold a decorated wreath contest; and Santa will visit for photos and conversations with children. In addition, “music and coffe/cocoa will be flowing in town,” says McCormick, and potential plans for a Christmas vendor market are in the works.

Local businesses are asked to decorate windows and storefronts with lights and Christmas cheer, and offer specials that day to draw visitors into town early that day and keep them in town until the parade begins.
