Youth participate in Extreme Jakes shooting event at Rover Gun Club

The possibility of storms did not stop local youth from taking aim at the Rover Gun Club during an Extreme Jakes shooting event on May 30. The event was sponsored by the Current River Callers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Participants had the opportunity to practice their marksmanship skills through skeet, trap and clay rabbit shooting, as well as .22 rifle target practice. Each youth participant received a free membership to Jakes, which stands for Juniors Achieving Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship. Attendees also received an MDC cap and a copy of the "Hunting Wild Turkey in Missouri" booklet. Through the day, participants were entered into prize drawings. Giveaways included a shotgun, a turkey hunting chair and a tree stand safety harness. Organizers extended a special thanks to the parents and volunteers who helped make the event a success. Prize winners, from left, are Cody Newman, Kellen Basham, Easton Scaggs, Elbert Jenne and Anne Jenne.
