Patrol announces change to public information crash reports
Capt. Scott White, Public Information and Education Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, has announced the patrol will no longer provide the names of those involved in injury accidents or boating accidents in its preliminary online reports, including fatalities and drownings, because of privacy concerns. The change started at 3 p.m. on Friday and was applied retroactively to all published reports to date. more
Ozark Marketing was a $1,000 sponsor of the “How to Enchant a Bookshop” dinner theater event held as a fundraiser for the 37th Judicial CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). The Sept. 7 event raised $21,500 for the organization, which advocates for and supports abused and neglected children in the 37th Judicial Circuit, comprised of Howell, Shannon and Oregon counties. Ozark Marketing donates in support of CASA
Local and state representatives that included Missouri Gov. Mike Parson recently gathered to grab shovels and move some dirt to officially kick off the construction of the train overpass on Independence Drive/U.S. 160. The project has been in progress with some preliminary work already completed, including moving power lines and fresh pavement. Mayor Mike Topliff and Parson thanked all involved during the Oct. 3 groundbreaking ceremony, including those agencies that helped secure grants and other funding for the large undertaking. The city has budgeted $7.8 million for the project, supplemented by $2.5 million in Community Development Block Grant money and other funds through the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Delta Regional Authority. Capital Paving and Construction and Crawford, Murphy & Tilly engineering services are working on the project. Groundbreaking ceremony held for railroad overpass project
Rep. David Evans, 154th District, left, was recently recognized by Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Russell, right, with gratitude for his service as a legislator in protecting and improving the judicial system in Missouri. Prior to being elected to the House, Evans was a judge for 27 years in the 37th Judicial Circuit. He will retire from his office at the end of the year.

At a recent ceremony honoring service to Missouri and to the state’s judiciary, 154th District Rep. David Evans of West Plains, who previously served as presiding judge for the 37th Judicial Circuit, was honored by Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Russell for his contributions to protecting and improving the fair and just administration of justice in Missouri.   more

Lucas Kunce, running for U.S. Senator on the Democratic ticket, spoke at an event July 27 at Galloway Park in West Plains, hosted by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 2782. Many union members were joined by Howell County Democrats and others, and the crowd numbered about 70. The focus of his presentation was labor, but he also talked about other policies he supports, including reproductive rights and the codification of Roe Vs. Wade, protection of in-vitro fertility treatments, federal funding for infrastructure projects and opposition to "no-fault" divorce.

Lucas Kunce, 41, of Hartsburg in the Columbia metro area, is running for U.S. Senator on the Democratic ticket, one of four Democrats challenging Sen. Josh Hawley. On July 27, he held a campaign rally at Galloway Park, speaking in the audience-filled pavilion about his goals, should he be elected. more
Republican candidate for governor Bill Eigel made a stop Wednesday in West Plains at Pizza Inn and spoke before a crowd of about 80 people supporting him and other Republican candidates, who filled two rooms. He also made a stop Friday afternoon at Pizza Americana in Willow Springs.
