Al and Gloria Tilman, residents of Cedarhurst Senior Living in West Plains, will be married 67 years in April and were crowned Valentine King and Queen on Friday. That day, Valentine’s Day, was also Al's birthday, making it that much more special. They are one of seven couples living at Cedarhurst, Life Enrichment Director Kim Harralston said. The day was full of flowers, chocolates and other tokens of love. Each of the facility's 65 residents got dozens of cards sent from eight states, including Jefferson City in Missouri, Michigan, California, Texas, South Dakota, Kentucky, Virginia and Nebraska, as part of the Angel Card Project. The project is a volunteer effort to send cards to those who, like the elderly, might feel isolated during holidays like Valentine's Day. Cedarhurst received about 800 cards total. Additionally, staff members each drew a resident's name and bought them a gift, and balloons were delivered by volunteers as part of a community effort organized by several local churches and Family Dollar.

Thanks to a generous $27,909 donation from West Plains Bank and Trust Company and local district funds, all West Plains R-7 School District buses and student transportation vans are now equipped with Automated External Defibrillators. The donation was made possible through the Zizzer Debit Card Program, which has provided thousands of dollars in support to the district over the years, said bank officials, adding West Plains Bank and Trust Company is a dedicated partner, investing both time and resources to enhance student safety and well-being. "We are incredibly grateful for their continued support," said R-7 Superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis. "This donation could be life-saving for students, staff and drivers in an emergency." All bus drivers will undergo CPR and AED training and once the training is complete, AEDs will be installed, adding another layer of protection for students during travel. MOUNTAIN VIEW — Newly-elected Missouri state representatives Lisa Durnell, right, and Keith Elliott, center, held an informal meeting this morning at Ron's Family Restaurant in Mtn. View to discuss policy and take questions and suggestions from constituents in an informal setting. Durnell, representing Howell County in the 154th District, is a Willow Springs native. Elliott is from Doniphan and represents the 153rd District, which includes a portion of Howell and Oregon, Shannon, Carter, Ripley and Wayne counties. Both talked about bills they have sponsored and emphasized their dedication to service and interaction with the communities they represent. They said they plan to have at least two more "meet and greet" style events in the near future. Both serve as members of the Agricultural Committee; Durnell is also a member of the Special Committee on Tourism and Elliott is on the Corrections and Public Institutions Committee. With them is newly-elected Howell County Sheriff Matt Roberts.
