The West Plains Car Club is gearing up for family fun with the 38th annual Wheels & Deals Car Show and Swap Meet, set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The event will be held at the First Church of God, 1700 Wayhaven Drive in West Plains.
Participants can register a vehicle in the show for a $20 entry fee. A display vehicle entry is $10, and those looking to clear out their garages can rent a swap meet space to sell auto-related items for $10.
The first 50 entries will receive T-shirts, dash plaques and door prizes, and official judging will take place at noon. A $100 prize will be awarded to the largest attending car club. The show features dozens of specialty awards across various classes, including Best GM, Best Ford, Oldest Car and Best of Show. The event will also feature a special "Salute to Veterans.”
A highlight of the event is the valve cover races. According to the rules, racers must build their cars from a V-8 valve cover using gravity propulsion only, as motors are prohibited. The cars must have four non-metal wheels that are no larger than 6 inches and do not extend beyond the front of the cover. Vehicles are limited to a maximum weight of 10 pounds, a length of 30 inches and a height of 10 inches. The single-elimination races strictly prohibit moving weights. For those who prefer design over speed, a "Show Class" will be judged by spectators.
Attendees can enjoy a 50/50 drawing, a concession stand and local food trucks throughout the day.
The event is heavily supported by the local business community. Host motels include Baymont Inn & Suites and Holiday Inn Express. Gold sponsors include Colton’s Steak House, McDonald's, Mega Motorsports, Physical Therapy Specialists and West Plains Bank and Trust Company. Additionally, more than 60 local automotive shops, retail stores, restaurants and professional services are backing the event as Silver, Bronze and Specialty Award sponsors.
