8 area residents hurt in recent crashes

Two adults and three children were hurt in a crash at 11:12 a.m. Christmas Eve on U.S. 60 about 4.5 miles northwest of Cabool in Texas County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Cpl. T.L. Brown, Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported the crash occurred when the front seat passenger in an eastbound 2012 Ford Fusion manipulated the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the road and overturn.

Minor injuries were reported for the driver, Donya M. Have, 30, Mtn. Grove and another adult passenger, Aaron McCoy, 32, also of Mtn. Grove, plus three children in the vehicle, a 4-year-old and 11-year-old from Mtn. Grove and a 10-year-old from Alton.

The patrol does not release identifying information for children younger than 18 due to policies protecting their privacy.

All three children were properly secured in seat belts or car seats, but the adults were not wearing seat belts, the report shows. All five were taken by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital.

Brown was assisted at the scene by Cpl. S.J. Crewse and Tpr. J.L. Sentman.

Minor injuries were reported for a Willow Springs man who was in a crash at 6:25 p.m. Saturday on County Road 5910 10 miles west of Pomona.

Tpr. J.J. Smith reported Darrell A. Brown, 25, was the driver of a westbound 2004 Subaru Outback that failed to negotiate a cure, ran off the road and struck a tree.

Brown was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, and was taken to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains.

A West Plains man suffered moderate injuries when his pickup truck ran off the road and rolled at 9:10 a.m. Friday on U.S. 160 4 miles east of West Plains.

Cpl. J.D. Wheeler reported Mark Hedden, 68, was not wearing a seat belt when his eastbound 2004 Dodge pickup truck ran off the right side of the highway, overturned and struck a fence. Hedden was taken by South Howell County Ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare, the report shows.

A woman from West Plains suffered minor injuries in a four-vehicle pileup at noon Thursday on Highway 76 about 3/4 of a mile northwest of Silver Dollar City in Stone County.

Tpr. M.L. Harris with Troop D of the patrol, Springfield, reported a westbound 2022 Jeep Wagoner driven by Stephanie J. Viehweg, 39, Hollister, failed to yield to a stopping 2014 Honda Civic, driven by Frederick J. Maddalena, 68, Shell Knob, causing the Jeep to rear-end the Honda. The Honda then went on to strike the rear of a 2016 Kia Sedona driven by Jonathan R. Hellster, 42, Overland Park, Kan., pushing it into the back end of a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Daniel M. Simpson, 46, of West Plains, Harris reported.

Minor injuries were reported for Keena L. Simpson, 41, West Plains, a passenger in the Dodge, and for a 12-year-old girl from Hollister who was riding in the Jeep. No other injuries were reported, and all involved wore seat belts.

Both of the injuries were reportedly taken by ambulance to Cox Hospital in Branson.
