Levi Rand rape trial set for March 20

The trial date for a West Plains man charged with sexual assault is set to begin March 20 before Presiding 37th Judicial Circuit Judge Steven Privette, according to court documents.

Levi G. Rand, 20, is charged with two counts of first-degree rape or attempt, and two counts of first-degree sodomy or attempt, each a felony.

Charges were filed by grand jury indictment in December 2022, about a year after an alleged incident at the victim's home and about nine months after the investigation began, in March 2022.

The investigation was prompted after it was reported a minor had been sexually assaulted while Rand was an overnight guest at the victim's home and arrangements had been made for an investigative interview at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC).

Rand allegedly entered the victim's room in the middle of the night and asked for a phone charger, then lingered in the room after being told to leave before initiating unwanted sexual contact that continued after the victim repeatedly told him to stop. Rand reportedly stopped and left the room after the victim made a threat to tell, and an examination at the CAC appeared to confirm the victim's statement that they had been injured during the alleged assault.
