Billy J. Compton, 49, Mtn. View, has been charged with first-degree domestic assault resulting in a serious injury after allegedly fracturing his wife's lower leg by punching it.

Howell County Deputy Jacob Hamby, in a statement to prosecutors, reported that on Dec. 2, he responded to a request for a well-being check at the victim's home regarding a domestic assault that allegedly happened on Nov. 22.

He stated a woman came outside as he arrived and asked to be taken to the Mercy St. Francis Clinic in Mtn. View to have her leg examined because she believed it had been broken when Compton struck her.

She also stated she believed he had been going through opiate withdrawal at the time and was being violent with her, adding he tells her several times a week he is going to kill her and she was scared for her life if she went back to their house.

The victim was examined and found to have a "mildly displaced fractured fibular neck,” Hamby reported. The fibula is the smaller of two bones in the lower leg and the fibular neck is located just below the top of it, where the bone rests under the kneecap.

A warrant with a $50,000 cash or corporate surety bond was issued for Compton on Sunday, and the warrant was served and bond posted on Monday, court records show. He is to appear before 37th Judicial Associate Circuit Court Judge R. David Ray this Monday for a bond appearance hearing, and has not yet hired a lawyer.

The case is being prosecuted by Howell County Prosecutor Mike Hutchings.
