Texas Co. sheriff investigating shooting death in Bucyrus area

Posted

Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey is reporting an investigation into a fatal shooting that happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Bucyrus, about five miles west of Houston.

A call came in around that time to the Texas County 911 dispatch from a 38-year-old man who said he shot a person he thought was trying to enter his home, only to discover the victim was a 31-year-old woman who lived with him at the home, Lindsey reported Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies arrived to investigate, and Texas County Coroner Marie Lasater also responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Lindsey said. An update provided by Lindsey at 11:30 a.m. Thursday identified the victim as Tiffany M. Angel, of Bucyrus.

The alleged shooter was detained at the scene and placed on a 24-hour hold at the Texas County Jail while a probable cause statement was submitted to Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens for review. The identity of the alleged shooter, who has since been released from custody, has not been released by law enforcement.

Lindsey added the investigation is ongoing and as more details are known about the incident and the circumstances surrounding it they will be released.

As of about 2 p.m. Thursday, no charges seeming to be connected to a shooting in Texas County were posted on Missouri CaseNet, the online public access portal for court records.
