Wednesday crashes injure 3 area residents; teen driver hurt Thursday

A Houston man suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle struck a deer, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Tpr. N.B. Poynter, Troop G, Willow Springs, reported the accident happened at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 17, 5 miles north of Success in Texas County. David C. Simmons, 61, was driving a southbound 2018 BMW K1600 that hit the animal, causing Simmons to be thrown off the motorcycle, Poynter reported.

Simmons was wearing a helmet and he was flown by air ambulance to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, the report shows.

Poynter was assisted at the scene by Cpl. S.J. Crews and the Roby Fire Department.

Amber L. Fiedler-Smith, 44, Ava, suffered serious injuries in a rollover crash at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday on AJ Highway, 2 miles north of Rome in Douglas County.

Tpr. C.A. Edens reported Fiedler-Smith was driving a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe that ran off the road, struck a culvert, became airborne and overturned.

She was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by Christian County Ambulance to Cox South, the report shows.

Auden M. Vaneperen, 20, Gainesville, was hurt in a rollover crash at 4:14 p.m. Wednesday on Third Street in Gainesville.

Tpr. K.L. Hogan reported a southbound 2021 Toyota Camry driven by Vaneparen struck a parked 2019 Toyota Tacoma, overturned, then struck a parked 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The parked vehicles were unoccupied at the time.

Vaneperen was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and he was taken by Ozark County Ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains for treatment of moderate injuries, the report shows.

A Thursday morning crash resulted in minor injuries for a 16-year-old boy from Ava.

Sgt. L.S. Elliot reported the boy, whose identity is not included in the report because he is a minor, was driving his 1996 Chevrolet S10 north on Highway 5, 7 miles south of Ava, when the pickup truck ran off the left side of the road and overturned at 8:20 a.m.

The youth, who wore a seat belt, was taken by Cox ground ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
