Missouri’s nonfarm payroll employment increased by 5,600 jobs in October, and the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased by two-tenths of a percentage point, report officials with the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development Economic Research and Information Center, which provided all of the data presented here in its Monthly Jobs Report. more

Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic donates to Christmas Assistance Program
Jo Coffee Company, 905 Preacher Roe. Boulevard in West Plains, will kick off its 12 Days of Christmas special event on Monday. Through Dec. 23, the drive-thru coffee shop and small-bite eatery will emphasize a different movie theme daily with a prize and special to go along with it, and special drinks will be available only during those 12 days. While, in the spirit of Christmas surprises, the details of those drinks are being kept under wraps until the time comes, the coffee company has announced a new seasonal menu with drinks evocatively named for seasonal elements: Dream by the Fire, Cider Bliss, Evermore, Snow Angel and Creme Brûlée. Details about those drinks and other updates can be found at the “Jo Coffee Company’” page on Facebook. Business hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The public is invited to join Willow Springs School District officials from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 for an open house of two new facilities, the Bear Training Facility and Innovation Hall. The Bear Training Facility, at 901 N. Ferguson St. next to the football practice field, is a training facility open to all athletes and students in weight training classes. Innovation Hall, at 908 Springfield Road, is a Career and Technical Education Center that houses hands-on programs such as Aviation, Bear Media, Carpentry, Criminal Justice and Engineering.

Walmart of West Plains donated to several area causes during its grand reopening celebration held Nov. 3. Among the beneficiaries was the West Plains High School choir, which gave a performance for the festivities, under the direction of Kelly Dame, front row, far right. The business presented the Zizzer choir with a check for $1,000, prompting Communications Director Lana Snodgras to express thanks on behalf of the West Plains R-7 School District. “Thank you to Walmart for the generous donation to the West Plains High School choir,” she said. “Your support hits a high note in our school.”

A West Plains woman was injured when her vehicle ran off the road at 7:25 a.m. Sunday on south U.S. 63, a half-mile south of Koshkonong in Oregon County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. more
