"Just Another Human" is both the name of a new community outreach group and the sentiment behind it, finding familiarity and common ground as citizens and taking action to help. The group has about a half dozen regular members who meet each Saturday gather items for the unhoused people of West Plains, including staples like shelf stable food, hygiene products and sleeping bags and blankets, plus treats and gifts. The theme for the 2024 Willow Springs Christmas Parade was "Super Hero Christmas" and the costumed characters and sidekicks from this entry from Willow Care Nursing Home definitely knew the assignment.
Willow Springs Christmas Parade a 'heroic' affair
The seventh annual Christmas Model Train Display kicked off over the weekend. An array of wintry and holiday-themed setups is on exhibit from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at the Harlin Museum, 405 Worcester St., until Dec. 22. From Dec. 23 through 29, the display may be seen from noon to 5 p.m. daily, with the exception of Christmas Day. Admission is free, though donations are accepted, and there will be items offered for sale by the sponsor, the West Plains Model Railroad Club. Club members encourage all to stop in and check out new train layouts and participate in a scavenger hunt for items hidden throughout the display.

VANZANT — The Prescott Family Reindeer Farm, in rural Douglas County near Vanzant, is now open for its fourth season. The seasonal display and activities feature animals born and raised on the ranch year-round, including seven reindeer in addition to chickens, ducks, cows, horses, llamas, alpaca, a donkey and miniature horses and ponies. more

Reminder: Toys for Tots Christmas concerts set for tonight, Saturday
The 13th annual Toys For Tots Christmas concerts will be held beginning 6:30 p.m. today and Saturday at The Bridge Church, 10105 S. U.S. 63 in West Plains, and the cost of admission is one new, unwrapped toy to be distributed to a child, or a cash donation at the door. more
The 2024 West Plains Christmas Parade, sponsored and organized by the Greater West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce will begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 14 and make its way downtown. This year’s parade theme is “The Sounds of Christmas,” and Missouri State University-West Plains Community Band Director, Rocky Long will serve as grand marshal. Entries are still being accepted and volunteers are needed. To get an entry form or learn how to volunteer, email the chamber at info@wpchamber.com or drop by the chamber office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at 397 Jackie D. Garrett Drive. Parade lineup and safety instructions will be given to entries when they register. A panel of judges will evaluate entries on originality, workmanship and relevance to the parade theme. First and second place prizes will be awarded in commercial, religious and miscellaneous categories, and there will be an overall grand prize.
